Two Cheetahs in Serengeti, Tanzania

Serengeti National Park

Tanzania’s crown jewel, Serengeti National Park, is the country’s most iconic safari destination. Sharing an unfenced border with Kenya’s Masai Mara, the Serengeti’s vast open plains are where the Great Migration takes place. Millions of wildebeests and zebras journey between both parks in search of fresh grazing, making for a spectacle like no other.

The Serengeti also allows you to marvel at predators like lions and cheetahs in action, as the park offers one of the best opportunities to witness the circle of life. With breathtaking sunsets over golden grasses and rich ecosystems, the Serengeti embodies the wild heart of Africa.

View of Ngorongoro Crater with a camp

Ngorongoro Crater

Along with the Serengeti, Ngorongo Crater is part of Tanzania’s popular Northern Circuit. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Ngorongoro’s geography allows it to be densely populated with animals. This is why the elusive Big 5, especially rhinos, are more common to spot here.

Roam across the crater floor on your private game drive and spot zebras, lions, and elephants against lush greenery and shimmering lakes. Stay in the most unique safari lodges with vast views over the crater. If you’re lucky, you may have elephants strolling past your camp.

Zanzibar halal holidays

Zanzibar

Known as the Spice Island, Zanzibar is a jewel in the Indian Ocean. The island is world-renowned for its beachfront resorts, crystal-clear waters and powder-white beaches. What we love about Zanzibar is that while you can relax and soak in the pristine nature, you can also have a richer experience.

Head off to the capital, Stone Town, and wander through the narrow alleyways to spot its heritage buildings and intricately carved doors which whisper stories of the island’s Swahili, Arab, and Indian heritage. Savour halal street food from the day’s catch to fragrant biryanis. And don’t forget about Jozani Forest where you can spot the rare red colobus monkeys swinging between trees.

Best times to visit Tanzania

Tanzania best time to travel chart

The best time to visit Tanzania is from June to October. This period is the dry season and it’s the prime time for wildlife viewing and outdoor adventure. Days are pleasantly warm at 25-30°C, with cooler nights, especially in elevated areas like the Ngorongoro Highlands. Apart from having minimal rain, what makes these months great for tourism is that it’s easier to spot animals as they congregate around water sources. As it’s peak travel season, be prepared for high prices during this time.

The rest of the year splits into two parts: short rains (November to December) & long rains (January to May). The former has sporadic rainy patterns but mostly is similar to the dry season in terms of temperatures. The long rains period turn the landscape lush and green but harder to spot wildlife such as the Big 5. However, these months are a bird watcher’s dream as migratory birds flock to the region.
