Embarking on a journey that merges discovery and connection, Rooh Travel teamed up with the inspiring Amira Patel, the force behind The Wanderlust Women, for a mesmerising women’s only expedition to Malaysia & Indonesia.
This collaboration was more than just a trip; it was an opportunity to forge lasting memories, explore stunning landscapes, and celebrate the vibrant cultures of these two remarkable destinations.
When I first ventured into Malaysia & Indonesia on my first ever backpacking trip, little did I know that these experiences would lay the foundation for Rooh Travel.
My love for these vibrant regions, rich culture, stunning landscapes, and warm-hearted people, inspired me to share these gems with others.
Fast forward to now, I’m thrilled to have collaborated with the incredible Amira Patel, founder of The Wanderlust Women, to bring this magical journey to life.
Planning a one-of-a-kind experience
Planning a trip of this magnitude requires meticulous preparation, including designing an itinerary offering a well-rounded experience for all participants.
Our goal was to create a journey that showcased the diversity of Malaysia & Indonesia while ensuring there were elements such as mountaineering and hiking.
Amira’s enthusiasm and vision were integral to the planning process. She wanted a mix of city life, mountain adventure, and beach relaxation.
We worked through several drafts, fine-tuning the details until we had an itinerary that promised an unforgettable experience.
The itinerary in a nutshell
Day 1 - 2: Arrival and exploration of Kuala Lumpur
The first two nights in Kuala Lumpur was designed to immerse the group in this magical city and its highlights. Activities included visiting the Putra Mosque, Petronas Towers, exploring Batu Caves, and a halal street food tour at Jalan Alor Night Market. A fitting welcome to Southeast Asia
Day 3 - 6: A thrilling adventure up Mount Rinjani, Lombok
The first 2 days of this segment started with trekking to local waterfalls and villages in Sembalun, Lombok. It is then followed by ascended up Mount Rinjani, Indonesia’s second highest volcano with the reward of breathtaking views and a sense of achievement. The journey included guided hikes and connecting with nature.
Day 7 - 10: Island vibes in Gili Air
Activities included snorkelling, beach yoga, and exploring the island on bicycles. The serene beaches and crystal-clear waters provided the perfect end to journey. On Gili Air, there are no vehicles or motorbikes as the island is small although it is conveniently developed for a relaxing stay.
A journey to remember
The trip was a resounding success, marked by awe, laughter, and connection. Participants immersed themselves in the natural beauty and cultural richness of each destination.
Highlights included:
Cultural immersion: In Kuala Lumpur, we delved into the city’s vibrant culture. Whether it was exploring historic sites or enjoying the bustling nightlife, the city offered a dynamic start to our adventure.
The hike: Conquering Mount Rinjani offered a sense of camaraderie as the group reached Pelawangan Sembalun (at an elevation of 2639 meters) was unparalleled. The vistas were spectacular, making every challenging step worthwhile.
Beach vibes: Gili Air offered a serene escape. From snorkelling adventures to peaceful beachside meditations, the island provided a perfect contrast to the mountainous terrain of Rinjani.
Trip reflections
Reflecting on the journey, I’m struck by the transformative power of travel. This collaboration not only fostered a sense of adventure but also strengthened the bonds within our community. It was heartening to see participants step out of their comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and form lasting friendships.
Amira’s role was pivotalcin inspiring everyone to push their boundaries and savour each moment. Her ability to connect with participants on a personal level added a unique dimension to the trip, making it truly special.
