Intentional Travel: Where To Go In 2026

Table of contents

Every year, us travellers, are overwhelmed by the countless “Places You Need To Visit” lists published by travel companies. These lists are generally based on data gathered throughout the year.

Is it helpful? Maybe. But, is it meaningful? Not really.

Because, the most memorable trips aren’t picked from trend forecasts. They come from something personal: what you crave and who you’re becoming.

For 2026, we’d like to take a different approach that’s grounded in intention, clarity, and purpose.

So, we’ve worked on an intentional travel guide for those that plan their journeys based on meaning and not the latest fad.

This guide is designed to help you travel in alignment with the new chapter you’re entering, not the trends you’re supposed to follow.

So, instead of where everyone is going, here’s a guide to where you should go based on what you want more of in 2026:

  • More connection
  • More stillness
  • More awe
  • More gratitude and celebration

These four intentions shape the Rooh Travel approach this year and each one leads to two destinations chosen for how they make you feel, not how they’re ranked.

Find the path your heart is leaning towards, and let that guide where you go next.

The 2026 Intentional Travel Guide

Reconnect

Places made for slowing down, opening up, and hearing each other again.

For those wanting to strengthen their bond, some journeys aren’t about going far, they’re about going inward together.

Mauritius and Zanzibar are destinations made for long conversations under slow sunsets, gentle adventures hand-in-hand, and rediscovering softness with the people you love.

Turquoise lagoons, quiet coves, and candlelit dinners beneath tropical skies make Mauritius one of the world’s most intimate island escapes.

There’s plenty to do from drives through quiet inland villages to dolphin cruises but nothing ever feels rushed. By sunset, when families gather along the beach and the sky turns that soft gold Mauritius is famous for, the island’s rhythm becomes your own.

It’s calm, gentle, and quietly restorative with the kind of beauty that doesn’t shout for your attention, it just brings you back to yourself.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is the kind of place where you can wake up to the sound of the ocean and end the day in a rooftop café in Stone Town, talking about everything and nothing.

The air carries spices and that warm Indian Ocean breeze you never quite forget. Stone Town adds a different layer with its narrow alleys, carved doors, and a history you can feel as you wander.

But the island’s real magic arrives in the quiet moments: drifting on a dhow at sunset, watching kids play football on the beach, conversations with locals who’ve lived here their whole lives.

Zanzibar has a softness to it, but also a grounded energy that makes you present.

Disconnect

Nature-led destinations that quiet the noise so you can listen inwardly.

Craving quiet and clarity? Time to stop scrolling. Lombok and Koh Lanta are places that make you pause, watch children play with handmade toys, stroll through local villages, and notice the small moments often missed in tourist-filled destinations.

Lombok

Sembalun Lombok Indonesia

Less crowded than its more popular neighbour, Bali, and I’d say a lot more breathtaking, Lombok offers volcanic ridges, serene beaches, and a slow island rhythm that feels like therapy.

It’s a destination that gently reminds you to pause and to breathe. After a day here, you start noticing how much calmer you’ve become.

You can spend days chasing viewpoints, waterfalls, or simply sitting on a hillside watching surfers catch the last light. Ultimately, there’s no pressure to “do” anything. Even Gili Islands boat trips feel unhurried as turtles glide past, time dissolves, and suddenly you realise you haven’t checked your phone in hours.

Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta in Southern Thailand, is widely described by insiders as the island locals quietly prefer over hotspots like Phi Phi. It’s the place many Thais go for their own holidays because it’s calmer, less commercial, more respectful in pace, and still deeply local in character.

As a result, the days blend into each other in the best way: scooter rides through palm-fringed roads, quiet beaches hidden behind jungle, and evenings spent barefoot. There’s no rush, no noise, no pressure to fill your itinerary. Even the locals seem to live by a slower clock.

Koh Lanta lets you step away from everything familiar and settle into a rhythm that’s softer, quieter, and surprisingly healing.

Purposeful adventure

Journeys that expand your courage while grounding your faith.

There are adventures which drain you and there are adventures which reshape you. Tanzania and Oman are our intentional travel destinations for those that are in search of awe not just adrenaline.

Tanzania

Tanzania gives you that feeling of being wide awake in the world. Dawn begins on the savannah cool air, soft light, and the slow movement of wildlife that makes you instinctively whisper.

Safaris here aren’t just about sightings; they’re about being part of something bigger, watching entire ecosystems unfold around you.

One moment you’re crossing the plains, the next you’re in the crater, or drifting along the edge of Lake Manyara as flamingos colour the shoreline.

There’s a sense of purpose in every journey from meeting local communities to learning how conservation truly works, and even understanding how nature, people, and tradition weave together.

In the end, Tanzania is adventure that means something. It challenges you, moves you, and reminds you how incredible the natural world really is.

Oman

Oman feels like stepping into landscapes that have held their stories for centuries. You drive through mountain passes carved by time, spend afternoons wandering old forts, and watch the sun fall across desert dunes that stretch endlessly in every direction.

Adventure here isn’t chaotic, it’s grounded and deeply cultural. Locals welcome you like family, not tourists. One day you’re swimming in a turquoise wadi, the next you’re sharing dates and coffee on a rooftop overlooking Muscat’s coastline.

Every experience slows you down just enough to appreciate where you are. Oman’s beauty is honest and timeless, the kind of place that leaves you with memories that feel bigger than the trip itself.

A journey through Oman stays with you not because it’s dramatic, but because it feels genuinely meaningful.

Celebrate blessings

Where milestones are celebrated with beauty and gratitude.

Some moments deserve to be honoured and some blessings deserve to be celebrated in places that feel as special as the chapter you’re entering.

So, whether you’re a newlywed, new parent, or celebrating a well-deserved promotion, we recommend Maldives or Koh Samui to be the stage for your celebration.

Maldives

The Maldives is a place made for celebrating life’s milestones. Its overwater villas hover above crystal-clear lagoons, offering privacy and space to fully soak in the moment.

Days can be spent floating in calm waters, exploring tiny sandbanks, or simply watching the sunlight shift across the horizon. Each evening brings the softest sunsets, painting the sky in gentle golds and pinks.

Beyond the beaches, quiet coral gardens invite gentle exploration, and small boat trips to nearby islands reveal hidden corners untouched by crowds. Every experience, from sunrise breakfasts to evening walks along the shore, is designed to feel intimate and significant.

In the Maldives, celebrations feel expansive yet personal, allowing you to mark life’s achievements surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.

Koh Samui

Koh Samui is Thailand’s polished, refined island. Here, lush hills meet upscale beachfront properties. It’s beautiful, uplifting, and perfect for a special trip that deserves to be remembered.

Stay in a private beachfront villa at Banyan Tree Samui or a boutique resort in Fisherman’s Village and spend your days exploring secret waterfalls or island hopping.

Sample the island’s fresh seafood and tropical fruits at local markets, enjoy a sunset dinner at a hilltop restaurant overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, or share a private candlelit meal on the sand.

Together, Koh Samui’s combination of natural beauty, thoughtfully curated experiences, and peaceful rhythm makes it a place to pause, feel gratitude, and mark life’s celebrations with intention.
